This is a spur of the moment post, but one of our favorite apps just came out with a new version and it is 50% off for a limited time. If you are like me, you love the idea of journaling but if you write a lot, you fill up journals and journals take up space.
What is your most prized possession? For me–it’s my boots. I am a sucker for buying expensive things that will last me a long time, so I bit the bullet and bought a pair of Red Wings. During the first few weeks of wearing them I felt myself carefully walking around so that I wouldn’t scuff them up. However, the inevitable happened and eventually… they got scuffed.
I have never read a book about Walt Disney, but I would love to! The interesting thing about Walt is that you do not have to read a book about him to understand the man that he was. If you watch a Disney movie, go to a Disney park, or watch a short clip of Walt himself speaking, it doesn’t take long for you to realize that he was a man of innovation, fun, and adventure. That same spirit lives on today through the Disney “cast members” who work so hard to ensure that every Disney experience is magical. Walt has left a legacy that has continued on for 50 years and counting. One thing we have in common with Walt is that we too will leave a legacy. Here are 3 things we can all learn from Walt:
It’s no secret that little girls adore princesses. From themed birthday parties to halloween costumes, the obsession is evident. Clearly princesses are beautiful, and they also have all the desirable characteristics: kind, servant-hearted, inclusive, hard-working, thoughtful…the list could go on. These qualities are reason enough to admire them, but even stronger than admiration is the desire to be like them. And to be loved like them. Loved in the way Prince Charming comes around and is totally infatuated with the princess. But before settling down with him, there are sometimes “Gaston” characters (think Beauty and the Beast) that get in the way. The princess must be wise enough to wait for the better man, and thankfully she does.
For those of us watching the movie, we are pulling for Prince Charming. We want the cliché happy ending. Unfortunately, what we see in movies is too often the opposite of what happens in real life. Girls are constantly settling for Gaston rather than waiting for Prince Charming.
“Where dreams come true.” That’s the first thing you read as you roll onto the Disney property joining the thousands of people who are flocking to a Disney park with high hopes of riding every ride, meeting Cinderella, or basking in the sights and sounds of Disney. We scurried through the retro landing zone for the ferries and soon hopped aboard, along with hundreds of others, to embark on our journey to the Magic Kingdom. Cast members are smiling, pointing you in the right direction, and saying “have a magical day” as you hurry past. Even waiting in line for security to check your bag is pleasant. Soon you, and everyone else are entering the “happiest place on earth.”
As someone who regularly gets coffee or lunch with high schoolers, I hear a lot of great questions about God. Once over a steaming Americano at Starbucks I was asked, “How could a loving God send people to Hell?” Another time as we were devouring perfectly crafted tacos from a local restaurant a guy asked, “Is there proof that Jesus actually rose from the dead?” Maybe you have been asked a similar question that, if you were being honest, stumped you. If we wanted to poke around a little deeper, maybe we have asked ourselves these same questions. These are great questions that deserve good answers. In this month’s book, questions like these and more are answered in such a way to give you confidence in the God of the Bible, and help you engage the tough questions rather than running from them.
At the beginning of the year most people decide it’s time to make a change to their lifestyle. Sometimes it’s deciding to eat healthier, workout, read one book a month… But if you’re like me, as a Christian, one of my hopes is to spend more time reading the Bible. This task can be daunting for many, after all there are dozens and dozens of reading plans to choose from. Some short, long, chronological, the options are endless. I’ve tried several and have come up with my top 3 reading plans that I find to be the best at keeping you on track and engaged with the Scriptures. But first let’s discuss the “why” to following a reading plan.
